Construction of the Perth Film Studios reaches new heights! A major milestone was reached on the State Government’s $233.5 million Perth Film Studios project in Malaga. On 16 July 2024, the first trusses for sound stages were lifted into position. The 5m deep trusses span 36m, with the bottom chord of the truss located 15m above ground level. A series of interconnected walkways span from truss to truss, creating a platform from which technicians will operate lighting, camera, and audio equipment during film production. The scale of the sound stages and the film studio precinct is starting to become apparent as the large steel frames are erected. It is always very rewarding witnessing a structure progress from initial concept, to detailed design and finally to real-life construction.
Working alongside Built. and Hassell BG&E is providing structural, civil and construction engineering services for the film studio precinct. The sound stage has been economically designed while still ensuring the structure adheres to a unique functional brief.
