All about construction, in simple words.

Millitorr (mTorr)

The millitorr (symbol: mTorr) is a unit of pressure equal to one-thousandth (10⁻³) of one torr.

  • 1 torr is defined as exactly 1/760 of standard atmospheric pressure, or approximately 133.322 pascals (Pa).
  • Therefore:
    1 mTorr = 0.001 torr ≈ 0.133322 Pa

It is a non-SI unit commonly used in vacuum science, semiconductor manufacturing, and analytical instrumentation where precise measurement of very low pressures is required.

📏 In SI terms:
1 mTorr = 1.33322 × 10⁻¹ kPa = 1.33322 × 10⁻⁴ bar = 9.87 × 10⁻⁵ atm

The unit honors Evangelista Torricelli, inventor of the mercury barometer in 1643—hence torr, and milli- denoting the metric fraction.
