November 2023 – The iconic Kangaroo Point Green Bridge is taking shape!. The 95-metre-high bridge mast is being lifted into position piece by piece and once complete will stand 20 metres taller than the Story Bridge. The mast will sit atop the uniquely designed main pier, which will accommodate a large viewing platform with seating and shade for residents and visitors to enjoy panoramic views once the bridge opens. More than 280 metres of the bridge deck has also now been built across the Brisbane River, using a tower crane to install some of the steel bridge spans.

Did you know?

  • The idea of a bridge connecting Kangaroo Point to the CBD dates back to the 1800s.
  • This bridge aims to reduce a whopping 84,000 cars from the roads annually, offering a direct route from Kangaroo Point into the heart of the CBD.
  • The construction boasts use of the world’s largest lifting capacity tower crane.Cr Ryan Murphy said the bridge will become a “key link” for citizens across the city. “With more and more major events coming to Brisbane, including the Olympic and Paralympic Games, the Kangaroo Point Green Bridge will become a destination for tourists and a key link for people travelling to the CBD and the Gabba stadium,” Cr Murphy said.”Brisbane is Australia’s fastest growing capital city and it’s important we deliver the transport infrastructure we need to keep people moving.”
Once completed the bridge will be one of the world’s longest cable-stayed bridges for pedestrians and cyclists, spanning 460m.
By 2036, it’s estimated that over 6,000 pedestrians, cyclists, and e-mobility riders will use the bridge daily.
The Kangaroo Point Green Bridge is set to be completed in 2024.

September 2023 – Kangaroo Point Green Bridge construction site in time to see the Cruciform get lifted into place by the team at Beenleigh Steel Fabrications. This project has been an eye opener to be involved in and experience all the different stages from concept to design, fabrication to paint at Tranzblast Coating Services, then movement to site, and now on site to see the logistics involved in moving a piece like this into place. I am excited to see the bridge opened when it’s finished, still buzzing to be supplying paint on this iconic project with Dulux Protective Coatings

February 2023 – The MEGAFRAME is now in place on the Kangaroo Point Green bridge, allowing the bespoke ‘flower’ formwork to begin on the main pier. It’s a temporary work platform coming in at 120 tonnes and measures 25m across. It provides safe access to construct the bridge’s main pier. Once the formwork is in place, reinforced steel will be installed and the pier concreted over to support the viewing platform at the mast.

January 2023 – Source – Rising high over the Brisbane River is the world’s largest lifting capacity tower crane at the Kangaroo Point Green Bridge site. The crane’s arrival marks a ramp up in construction and will be lifting some of the heaviest elements, with the heaviest lift being 180 tonnes for the 28-metre-tall prefabricated steel masthead – the centrepiece of the bridge.

This impressive crane will soon be named by a local Brisbane school student.
